We have one acre of Grenache (Tablas Creek clone) Noir planted on our Estate. The vineyard runs East to West and is trained bilaterally with a sprawling vertical shoot position that provides good airflow and light into the fruiting zone without the fruit being fully sun exposed. The vineyard was planted in 2007 and we have gotten more excited each year about the quality and character coming from this site. Grenache loves to set a healthy crop, so timely fruit thinning and leaf pulling on the north side of the canopy both really help to intensify the wines characteristics. This one acre is planted in one of the lower lying areas of the vineyard which is great because all of the coldest air drains through this area at night which makes for slower ripening, enabling more flavor and color development and better retention of acidity.
